Art for Health
Art for Haiti was started by a group of philanthropic artists and medical doctors committed to helping improve living conditions in underserved communities around the world. We as artists support medical teams that travel to the impoverished countries to assist with the basics that people need to survive. To raise funds, we accompany the teams to the affected areas. What we see and feel is expressed in diverse art forms that celebrate the vibrant and resilient human spirit. The artwork is auctioned at different events. All proceeds are then used toward health care, medical supplies and student scholarships. For this Haiti benefit, we partnered with The Global Health Program at Rush and the artist Marek Hosek to raise funds for our mission and create even greater awareness of the wonderful country of Haiti.
The Global Health Program at Rush
The Global Health Program at Rush The Global Health Program at Rush is committed to providing free health care to impoverished communities in partnership with local organizations and medical providers. The work began seven years ago in the village of Peralta in rural Dominican Republic. Working beside Dominican doctors and nurses, primary care and specialty surgical care is provided on a regular ongoing basis. The Program expanded to Haiti after the earthquake of 2010. When it became apparent that once the spot light and sense of urgency were gone that there still remained overwhelming devastation and suffering in Haiti, the Global Health Program committed itself to continue its work in Haiti. It has partnered with three impoverished communities in and around Port au Prince including the Jerusalem refugee camp where over 100,000 people are living in conditions of extreme poverty and need. The Global Health Program was started by Dr. Stephanie Wang, Internal Medicine Rush Medical Center, and is now spearheaded by Dr. Wang and Dr. Jennifer Towbin, Hospitalist Rush Medical Center.
